Rewire Your Brain

Our brains have the ability to change and adapt due to experience. Neuroplasticity is a general term referring to the brain's ability to change, reorganize, or grow neural networks. Neurons are specialized cells in our nervous system that transmit information throughout the body so we can walk, talk, and process information. Neurons that are used frequently develop stronger connections (neural networks). Neurons that fire together - wire together. Those that are rarely or never used eventually die. By developing new connections and pruning away weak ones, the brain can adapt and change.

Train Station

Trains of Thought

Your life moves in the direction of your strongest thoughts. Just like a train, your thoughts take you places. Is your thought life taking you where you want to go? If not, get off that train and get on the train of thought that takes you to where you want to go in life. Destinations of Peace, Joy, Hope and Health are all possible, by simply taking control of your thoughts. One the biggest revelations my past clients have experienced is learning that they can choose what they think about and no longer have to be captive to hurtful and toxic thoughts that just seem to pop up in their minds bringing them down.

Habits

It has been estimated that somewhere between 40% and 60% of the activities we do daily are habits. A good definition of a habit is: a routine or pattern of behavior that is repeated regularly and tends to occur subconsciously. Cravings are where habits start. For something to become a habit, our brains must crave it. There are three components of a habit cycle: Cue – is any trigger that tells your brain when and which habit to use; Routine – is an activity or behavior. Reward – is the improved outcome that your brain was craving. With good habits time is our ally, with bad habits time works against us. Your life today is essentially the sum of your habits, change your habits, change your life!

Your brain's filter

Focus on the bad things and you will invite negativity into your life. Focus on the good things and they will come to you, because your brain is seeking them out. It’s not magic, it’s your Reticular Activating System (RAS) influencing the world you see around you. The (RAS) is a bundle of nerves at our brainstem that filters out unnecessary information so the important stuff gets through. Your RAS takes what you focus on and creates a filter for it. It then sifts through the data and presents only the pieces that are important to you. The RAS seeks information that validates your beliefs.  If you think you are bad at giving speeches, you probably will be. If you believe you work efficiently, you most likely do. The RAS helps you see what you want to see and in doing so, influences your actions. The good news is that you can modify that filter to show you the good things you desire in life.
